Postcards Reconstructed
In the Postcards Portfolio, my involvement with the historical snapshot extended beyond my immediate family. The images combine antique portrait postcards obtained in my travels to Estonia, Russia and France with the written messages on the postcards.
The black and white photographs are electronically colored, resulting in a quality similar to hand-colored black and white photographs. The portraits are collaged with contemporary scenes photographed during my travels to these same places. The resulting collages visualize the layering and fragmentation of time and memory as a nonlinear experience.
